Women’s Association At Marin Country Club To Host Annual Charity Golf Tournament On August 20
Event Will Benefit Ranchin’ Vets – Organization Helping Veterans Transition to Civilian Life
They are sometimes cast as the forgotten heroes. Veterans who have served our country proudly for many years, many in the furthest remote regions of the world. But, when their tour of duty or duties are over, a return to everyday life back in the United States is often met with unemployment, loneliness and heartache.
Since 2000, the Women’s Association at spectacular Marin Country Club has staged a fundraising golf tournament to help local non-profit organizations further their mission. This year, the event’s beneficiary, Ranchin’ Vets, provides an introduction of veterans to farmers and ranchers with employment opportunities.
The MCC charity event has proved to be a highly-successful relationship with local non-profits raising nearly $250,000 over the last 14 years. “We couldn’t be more thrilled than the work that is being done and has been done over the past 14 years by the Women’s Association at Marin CC in supporting worthwhile organizations,” said Ryan Wilson, General Manager at Marin Country Club. “Veterans deserve the very best when they return home and I can’t think of a group that takes better care of our vets than Ranchin’ Vets. What an incredible organization.”
Ranchin’ Vets was founded by Kevin and Corey Downs who were inspired by Kevin’s brother, Capt. Phil Downs Jr. who served multiple tours in Iraq as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps. Karen and Scott Lamson, MCC members are personal friends of Corey and Kevin. Their son, Scott Lamson serves on the board of directors for Ranchin’ Vets. “We are grateful to Marin Country Club and their entire staff along with the Women’s Association for their tireless efforts in handling the charity golf event,” said Corey Downs, Program Director for Ranchin’ Vets.
120 golfers are expected to participate in the charity golf tournament which will be held on Thursday, August 20. Most of the event’s participants are members of Marin Country Club, but a limited number of spots are also available to the general public. Breakfast and lunch will be served for tournament participants and after the conclusion of play, a live and silent auction will be held.
