Team Troon on Tour: Thomas, Fitzpatrick & Noren Were In Weekend Contention at RBC Heritage
Results From Last Week
PGA TOUR
For the second consecutive week in the restarted PGATOUR schedule, Team Troon was well represented with five of six PGA TOUR stars in the field at the RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island. They not only competed, but a number of them were on the leader board, in contention over the weekend. All five players played into the weekend…with Matt Fitzpatrick, Alex Noren in hot pursuit of the leaders on Saturday and Sunday. Ultimately the low Team Troon player would be Justin Thomas, whom after making the cut on the number, would play solid over the weekend. Including a blistering 63 on Sunday that would earn him (at the time) the clubhouse co-lead. Ultimately, Thomas would finish in T8, five shots shy of eventual winner Webb Simpson. Fitzpatrick would finish with a solid T14 and Noren would have a T21 finish. All three of which had some great air time with their Troon bags over the weekend.
Below are all of Team Troon scores/finished for the RBC Heritage:
- 8th Justin Thomas: -17
- T14 Matt Fitzpatrick: -16
- T21 Alex Noren: -14
- T41 Matt Kuchar: -11
- T62 Gary Woodland: -6
LPGA
As shared in last week’s Team Troon on Tour report, with the LPGA Tour yet to start, a number of LPGA professionals are playing in regional tours. Cheyenne Woods included. She is in Florida, and last week competed in the Eggland’s Best Tour event held in Orlando. Cheyenne finished T22 after rounds of 76-72 in the event that was full of LPGA talent (including the eventual winner Xiyu Lin)
Coming Up
The Travelers Championship is up next this week at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut (defending champion is Chez Reavie). Like the first two weeks of the restarted tour, the field is strong and Team Troon will be well represented with 4 Team Troon ambassadors competing, including:
- Patrick Cantlay
- Matt Fitzpatrick
- Justin Thomas
- Gary Woodland
PGATour.com has Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay both in their Top 5 Power rankings going into The Travelers…with Thomas slotted at #1 and Cantlay at #4. Some interesting insight here on both (Source: PGATour.com Rob Bolton)
1) Justin Thomas – Returned with a T10 at Colonial and a T8 at Harbour Town despite one over-par round on each course. Same experience in previous start at Chapultepec (T6). T3 at the Travelers in 2016.
4) Patrick Cantlay – Sat out the first two events of the restart. T15 in each of the last two editions of the Travelers Championship. His 60 as a 19-year-old here in 2011 was the course record at the time.
Note: they ranked Bryson DeChambeau at #2, Justin Rose at #3 and Rory McIlroy at #5
Have a GREAT WEEK…preparing for July’s Troon Family Golf Month (that was a friendly Play Troon Calendar reminder)…and GO TEAM TROON!
