Team Troon On Tour: Team Troon Wins On Troon Turf
WOW! What a week as four Team Troon members took to the newly refined Kapalua Plantation Course: Matt Kuchar, Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland and Patrick Cantlay. Kapalua’s course enhancements (completed under the watchful eye of Troon’s design/development and Agronomy teams, Kapalua Operations and Agronomy teams, in collaboration with the original architects, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw) were done to refresh the course….make it a stronger test for the tour professionals but enhance playability for the resort golfers. The tournament kicked off and the world of golf saw the grandeur and stoutness of the course changes/refinements (under some challenging conditions….conditions that our amazing Kapalua Agronomy team worked tirelessly around/through.)
72 holes were not enough as the -14 total from Team Troon ambassador Justin Thomas, defending champion Xander Schauffele and past champion, Patrick Reed, sent all three back up the hill for a three way playoff (the last time a playoff occurred at Kapalua was in 2015 when, Reed captured the title over Jimmy Walker). Ultimately Team Troon ambassador would prevail on the third playoff hole in stunning fashion. This is Justin’s second time winning the Sentry TOC, as he won the event in 2017).
Team Troon also played well with all four participating players finishing in the Top 15, 3 in the Top 10 and 2 in the Top 5. Results are as follows:
1st Justin Thomas, -14
4th Patrick Cantlay, -11
7th Gary Woodland, -9
14th Matt Kuchar, -4
Congratulations again to the entire Kapalua Team/Ohana for putting on a great event!
Coming Up
Multiple Team Troon players are staying in Hawaii to tee it up at the Sony Open in Hawaii (played at Waialae CC, in Honolulu…on the island of Oahu). Justin Thomas will be looking to go “back to back” (as he did in 2017, winning both the Sentry TOC and the Sony Open – during the later he shot 59). Also teeing it up this week will be the Sony Open defending champion, Matt Kuchar, along with Patrick Cantlay and Alex Noren.
