Team Troon On Tour: Team Thomas and Team Kuchar With T5 Finishes at PNC

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks in the Team Troon realm. Most recently with Team Thomas and Team Kuchar finishing strong in the PNC, Team Troon’s Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth taking The Match title over Tiger Woods and Troon Investor/supporter Rory McIIroy, Matt Kuchar finishing strong at the QBE at the Troon-managed Tiburón Golf Club and more! So let’s dive into it…

PNC Championship

The PNC Championship concluded on Sunday featuring 20 of the games top stars and their relatives playing in a two day, two person scramble format in Orlando, Florida. Team Troon had representation in two teams, including 2020 champions Justin and Mike Thomas along with Matt Kuchar who played with his youngest son Carson. Low Team Troon was the team of Team Thomas who finished T2 at -24. Two shy of eventual winners in Team Singh (at -26). Team Kuchar earned a Top Five finish finishing T5 at -21. Congrats Son and Dad and Dad and Son!

  • T2: Team Thomas 57-63 = 120 / -24
  • T5: Team Kuchar 61 – 62 = 123 / -21

Capital One – The Match
The week prior Team Troon was well represented at the Capital One’s The Match. Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth took defeated the team of Tiger Woods and Troon Investor/supporter Rory McIlroy 3 & 2 under the lights in the seventh edition of The Match. Kudos to all involved in The Match including our friends at Excel Sports and also Club Car who crafted the custom golf cars for each player. All of which were auctioned off for charity (Tigers fetching $150,000). Proceeds from the event benefited  Hurricane Ian relief efforts.

QBE Shootout at Tiburón Golf Club

Also that same weekend, our team at Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples shined with the QBE Shootout. Congrats to all involved in the event. Also congrats to Matt Kuchar who, with partner Harris English, finished in 3rd place, just two shy of eventual winners  Tom Hoge  and Sahith Theegala. Congrats Matt and congrats Team Tiburon on a great event!

Coming Up Next

Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua Plantation Course

This year marks the 25th year that the Sentry Tournament of Champions will be played at the Troon-managed Kapalua Plantation Course, January 4-8th, 2023. New for 2023 and beyond, the Sentry Tournament of Champions includes the top 30 players from the final FedExCup standings who qualified for the previous year’s TOUR Championship in addition to the previous calendar year winners. This year’s event features a $15 Million purse (almost double the $8.2M from 2022) and has commitments from some of the top stars in the game including, but not limited to, Collin Morikawa, Adam Scott, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Tony Finau, Max Homa and more.

Two Team Troon players will be in the star-studded field: Justin Thomas, two-time Sentry Tournament of Champions winner  (2017, 2020) who qualified by capturing his second career major championship in the 2022 PGA Championship and Matt Fitzpatrick who makes his first appearance in Maui (and as he shared with us via a recent Zoom Q&A and via Episode 63 of The Turn Podcast), will be making his first trip to Hawaii). Matt qualified for the Sentry Tournament of Champions by capturing his first major championship in the U.S. Open at Brookline.

Go Team Troon! Go Kapalua Ohana!  It’s going to be a great week to start the new year.

Troon logos were well represented on the national NBC / Golf Channel broadcast of the PNC Championship as the Troon logo is both on Justin Thomas’ Golf Bag and also on Mike Thomas shirt/cap.
