Team Troon On Tour: Fitzpatrick With T2 Finish, Montgomerie With A T7 Finish
PGA TOUR – Wells Fargo Championship
The PGA TOUR was in Maryland last week for the Wells Fargo Championship. Typically played at Quail Hollow, this year’s event was at TPC Potomac as Quail Hollow is in preparation mode for the upcoming Presidents Cup. The defending champion was Rory McIlroy (who played quite well this year finishing T5). Low Team Troon member was Matt Fitzpatrick, who, with his all Troon bag was on the front page of the leaderboard all day Sunday and would get some solid TV time on the back nine of the final round. His final round 67 would be a “clean card” (ie bogey free) 67. His Troon Bag got some nice TV time, especially on 18 when he made birdie to get to –six under. Ultimately Matt would finish T2, just two shy of eventual winner Max Homa. A great week for Matt Fitzpatrick and we know your game is peaking headed into the heart of the summer PGA TOUR schedule. Fun Max Homa fact (s): this was Max’s second PGATOUR victory this year with his prior one coming at the Fortinet Championship at the Troon-managed Silverado Resort in Napa, CA. Back to Team Troon as we close with a congratulations to the next lowest Team Troon member in Matt Kuchar. Kuchar’s +4 total got him into the Top 50 for a T49 finish for the week. Congrats Matt and Matt!
- T2: Matt Fitzpatrick: 68-68-71-67: -6
- T49: Matt Kuchar: 67-73-73-74: +4
PGA CHAMPIONS TOUR – Mitsubishi Electric Classic
The Champions Tour was in the Peach State for the Mitsubishi Electric Classic at TPC Sugarloaf. Team Troon member Colin Montgomerie and his all Troon bag was in the field and he played quite well with a top ten finish after a three round total of -6, five back of eventual winner Steve Flesch. Ultimately Colin would finish T7. Congrats Colin on a solid week!
- T7: Colin Montgomerie: 72-69-69: -6
