Team Troon On Tour: Fitzpatrick with Strong Play at Kapalua
The Sentry – At Kapalua
This past week, the PGA TOUR returned to the 50th state and kicked of the new calendar year at the Troon-managed Kapalua on the Island of Maui. The week was one of reverence and reflection upon all that our Associates have been through on Maui since the August fires. At the same time, it was also a one that truly showcased the Relentless Dedication of our associates whom were Passionately Unified…yesterday, today and moving forward (more on that shortly). Before we get back to that, great golf was on full display all week and player comments about the golf course/course condition could not have been better. This year was the first year the field included both past winners and Top 50 in FedEx points playing for a record $20 Million dollar purse. The winner of The Sentry, was PGA Tour Courage winner and Callaway Golf staffer in Chris Kirk. Team Troon was represented in the field by Matt Fitzpatrick who earned his invitation by winning the RBC Heritage. Matt would play well all week (highlighted by a second round 64) and would finish T14 / 22 under par. Great playing this week Matt and thank you for starting off your calendar year at Kapalua on Maui!
- T14 Matt Fitzpatrick: 69-64-69-68 = 270 / -22

As alluded to earlier, this past week proved to be a great week to remind all that the recovery process on Maui will be a long road and that we all still should be there for our colleagues and those affected. Golf Channel did a live interview with our Plantation Course golf course superintendent in Bryan Pierce what was really moving. Click Here to View This Segment from The Golf Channel/NBC
Golf Digest followed up that interview with a comprehensive story. CLICK HERE to view this Golf Digest Story. One that not only tells Bryan’s story but conveys the ongoing/long term recovery process all on Maui are facing. We thank Golf Channel, Golf Digest and all who covered this event and share the story with the right balance of entertainment and education (the later on the long term recovery process for Maui and the people who live and work there).
Some other Fun Facts, Troon (Troon Golf + Indigo Sports) is involved in 12 golf courses at 9 different facilities in Hawaii.
On the Island of Maui we operate three facilities in Kapalua (Bay & Plantation), Kaanapali (Royal & Kai) and King Kamehameha Golf Club. For more info on Troon Hawaii, visit www.TroonHawaii.com
COMING UP
PGA TOUR- Sony Open in Hawaii
For 59 years, the PGA Tour has played the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club. This event is the third longest running tour event to be played at the same golf course (only behind the Masters at Augusta National and the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial). Team Troon will be represented with three players in the field to include Matt Fitzpatrick, 2019 Sony Open Champion in Matt Kuchar and the highly anticipated return of one Gary Woodland. This will be Gary’s first event back since undergoing brain surgery in September. Welcome back Gary, the world of Troon is so pleased to hear about your recovery. Go Team Troon!
Lastly, look for some new additions to Team Troon, with announcements coming soon.
Have a great week and Go Team Troon!
