Team Troon On Tour: Fitzpatrick Finishes T14 and Thomas Finishes T21 at the AP Invitational
PGA TOUR – Arnold Palmer Invitational
The Florida swing continued up to the Orlando area for the Arnold Palmer Invitational at a place where “the King” AP himself, was often spotted enjoy the game or even a casual meal: Bay Hill. Team Troon was well represented with two Team Troon members finishing within the Top 25 and three within the Top 65. Low Team Troon member was Matt Fitzpatrick (who always plays well at Bay Hill). Despite a challenging third round, Matt played well in Rounds 1, 2 and 4 to get him to -4 and finish T14. Justin Thomas finished one back of Matt at -3 and Alex Noren finished T61. There was no question there was some great drama on Sunday (at one point had four to five players tied for the lead). Kurt Kitayama would emerge as the winner, edging out Troon Investor/Supporter, Rory McIlroy by one (Rory would finish at -8, one shot out of a potential playoff. Nonetheless, congrats Team Troon on a solid showing
- T14 Matt Fitzpatrick: 70-69-76-69 = 284 / -4
- T21 Justin Thomas: 72-67-72-74 = 285 / -3
- T61 Alex Noren: 73-73-70-75 = 291 / +3
PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS – Cologuard Classic
The PGA TOUR Champions slid across the country, from Florida to Tucson, Arizona for the Cologuard Classic. Team Troon member Colin Montgomerie was in the field and would finish T59 after rounds of 73-72-73.
- T59 Colin Montgomerie: 73-72-73 = 218 / +2
That week was certainly a special week for Troon / Kapalua Associate Michael Castillo. Our Head Golf Professional of the Plantation Course was awarded a sponsors exemption to play/compete with the other “Champions”. Michael is a “Champion” himself as he has battled colon cancer for five years and the disease has progressed to his liver and lungs. He’s been through chemotherapy and radiation. In January, Castillo competed in the PGA TOUR’s Sony Open in Hawaii after winning the Aloha Section PGA Championship last September (he birdied the final hole to win by one). The Sony Open was Castillo’s PGA TOUR debut and the Cologuard Classic was Michael’s PGA TOUR Champions debut. To read the complete story, CLICK HERE

Congrats again Michael! Know that the World of Troon is behind you…both in your health and professional golf journey’s.
Lastly, Sunday of the Cologuard Classic ended with exciting news that the PGA TOUR Champions announced that NEXT YEAR, the Cologuard Classic would move to the Troon-managed La Paloma Country Club at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tucson, Arizona. CLICK HERE to read the complete release.
Congrats again to the team, membership and ownership of La Paloma Country Club and Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa
