Team Troon on Tour: Fitzpatrick and Thomas with strong showings at Scottish Open. Montgomerie at US Senior Open…and its Open Championship Week

Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Thomas both had strong showings this week at the Abrdn Scottish Open.  Thomas would finish T8 at -15, however it was Fitzpatrick who led Team Troon with stellar play all week long. Fitzpatrick would finish regulation with a four round total of -18 after firing a final round 67. That would place him in a three way playoff with Belgium’s Thomas Detry and Australian/Callaway staffer Min Woo Lee. Lee would end up birding the first playoff hole for the victory, but no doubt that Fitzpatrick is riding momentum going into the Open Championship this week at Royal St. Georges (more on that later). Congrats Matt and Justin on a solid week.

  • T8 Justin Thomas: 65-69-70-65: 269, -15

PGA Champions Tour

It was major week on the PGA Champions Tour as the US Senior Open took place at Omaha CC in Nebraska. Colin Montgomerie finished T34.

The final major of the year tees off this week in the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, Kent…located in southeast England. The Open Championship was not conducted in 2020 due to the pandemic, therefore the defending champion is Shane Lowry (who captured the 2019 championship at Royal Portrush). The last time the Open Championship was played at Royal St. Georges was ten years ago when Darren Clarke was crowned as Champion Golfer of the Year. Team Troon will be well represented at Royal St. George’s with all five PGA TOUR Team Troon members in the field including:

  • Matt Fitzpatrick
  • Matt Kuchar
  • Alex Noren
  • Justin Thomas
  • Gary Woodland

Speaking of the Open Championship, be on the lookout for the cool custom golf bag we have created for Matt Fitzpatrick this week. For context, Matt’s favourite football club is his hometown Sheffield United Football Club.
