Staying TroonFIt with Steven Tinoco: Getting Back Into It
Depending on where you are in the country, and even the world, gyms are starting to reopen for public use. This is definitely an exciting time in 2020 as hopefully that means things are slowly getting back to normal. With that, here are a couple tips getting back into your normal workouts.
First, bring the weight down from where you originally left off. Just because back in March you were able to back squat 185lbs for 5 reps, doesn’t mean you’re doing to be able to do that again when you first go back. Unfortunately, we all lost strength in this time regardless of how many home workouts you did with the set up you had. Unless you had everything you needed with bars and plates etc. there is no way we are capable of jumping back into where we left off. Bring back the weight and get comfortable with the movements and do not hurt yourself!
Next, have a plan when you walk in. Write out your workout from the amount of reps and sets you want to do that day and get after it. Knowing what you’re going to do each day will help you mentally prepare for your workout session and allow you to give your best effort through out it.
And lastly, do not be afraid to ask a trainer for help. Whether its a spot during the workout, watching your technique or even writing a program out for you, that is their job to be there for you and help you on this journey.
