Secret Valley Golf Club Superintendent Raises Over €13,000 for Cyprus Hospice
On Saturday 27th June 2020 Derek Smith, the Superintendent at Secret Valley Golf Club in Cyprus teed off with three fellow golfers from Paphos in the Longest Day Golf Challenge. Playing 72 holes of golf, across four golf courses in a single day to raise money for Archangel Michael Hospice in Mesa Chorio which has been faced with closure as donations and income from the hospice shop dwindled during the Covid-19 pandemic on the island.
The day started in the dark at 5.00 am at Troon managed Secret Valley Golf Club and completed their first 18 holes within 2 hours. By 10.30 am the temperatures were soaring and the foursome had completed their 2nd 18-holes at Aphrodite Hills Golf Club, but they tackled the midday heat and headed to Minthis Hills for their 3rd round, finishing their last hole at 2;45 pm.
With a final 18-holes to complete before sunset, they headed to Elea Golf Course where they were met by family and friends to support them on their final leg.
The event raised a fantastic €13,178 which will be used for essential medical supplies and equipment, staff training which will benefit the 8 patients currently receiving care at the hospice.
