HELP WANTED

AS EACH OF YOU READ THIS, you will find that your club continues the remarkable climb from the pits of the pandemic. While we have more members and golf play than ever, simultaneously we have fewer employees per member. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 39 percent of all leisure and hospitality jobs were lost during the pandemic, triple the next hardest-hit industry. Recruiting people back to the industry proves to be today’s biggest challenge and opportunity.
As a result, the climb back to normal goes beyond removing masks and keeping people safe from the virus. It also means we need to keep people safe from the trailing effects of the pandemic. The hospitality industry has too often been mistakenly viewed as a replaceable, if not disposable, work force. You, as members and guests, and we as management, need to foster an environment where people want to share their talents, humanity, and positive energy. The stresses on the teams this summer will be tremendous and we ask for your grace and advocacy in advance for a challenge the industry faces nationwide.
That said, as an organization, we are taking this as an opportunity to reflect on how we can improve our clubs for our members and employees. The first lesson of our mission clarity is to continuously set aside the politics to focus on what inspires people to be a part of our clubs. It is also not lost on any of us that these are the challenges to sing out loud about.
So grateful to be back for a return to a shared sunshine. Be good to each other!
