GOLF MAGAZINE NAMES TROON GOLF-MANAGED COURSES AMONG THE “BEST NEW COURSES” OF 2009
Scottsdale, Ariz. – Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce that three of its managed courses were recognized on Golf Magazine’s list of the “Best New Courses” of 2009. The annual list ranked the Jack Nicklaus-designed Red Ledges Golf Club in Heber City, Utah as the No. 1 “Best New Private Course of the Year.” Sequoyah National Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones II in Cherokee, N.C. was named the No. 2 “Best New Course You Can Play.” On the global front, The Faldo Legacy Course at Roco Ki in the Dominican Republic was named the No. 2 “Best New International Course of the Year.”
Noted by Golf Magazine for its “typical” Nicklaus hallmarks that include visual intimidation and supreme challenges, the publication praised Red Ledges for its “atypical” Nicklaus touches – jagged edge bunkers, blind shots, carom-inducing contours and greens featuring false fronts. Stunning views of Mt. Timpanogos and the Heber Valley also played a role in defining the supremacy of the new course at Red Ledges Golf Club.
The course at Sequoyah National was praised for its hilly layout, carved out of the steep foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. It’s said to be “spectacular throughout,” serving as an extraordinary amenity to the Harrah’s Cherokee Hotel & Casino, which is located nearby in the heart of the Cherokee Indian’s homeland.
Roco Ki has earned a reputation for featuring some of the most dramatic holes in the Caribbean. The first tee provides players a panoramic view of their journey – the headlands, mangroves and the spectacular ocean. The layout descends into a tropical sanctuary where the centuries-old mangroves line the fairways and later returns to the sea, setting up two of the most visually stunning finishing holes in golf.
“We congratulate these properties for being named among the best new golf courses in 2009,” stated Hud Hinton, president and COO, Troon Golf. “Each of these facilities offers a unique experience that contributes to the diversity of our portfolio and is well deserving of such a coveted accolade from one of golf’s most respected publications.”
