EAST POTOMAC GOLF LINKS WELCOMES NEW GENERAL MANAGER

Washington, D.C. (August 3, 2021) – East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C. is proud to welcome Dave Ahart as the facility’s new general manager.  Ahart will oversee operations of East Potomac’s two 9-hole courses, its 18-hole golf course, its practice facilities, the East Potomac Miniature Golf Course and The Potomac Grille.

Ahart has 22-plus years of golf industry experience, having most recently served as director of golf at the 1757 Club in Dulles, Virginia. Ahart’s career in golf began as a pro shop assistant at Penderbrook Golf Club while he was attending George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Since then, he has served as a head professional and general manager at several clubs in Maryland and Virginia. Throughout his career Ahart has been focused on growing the game and is known for his calm demeanor and improving customer service standards at each course he’s managed.

“Dave is a great addition to the East Potomac and Play DC Golf team,” said Troon’s Honours Golf Division President Matt Hurley. “His leadership, communication skills and golf industry knowledge will be key as we work to enhance and renovate East Potomac Golf Links.”

“I’m thrilled to be here and help lead East Potomac Golf Links into its next chapter,” said Ahart. “The course and property have a rich history and the excitement about what the future holds, with the upcoming renovation led by Tom Doak, is palpable.”

In October 2020, the National Links Trust (NLT) was chosen by the National Park Service to be the long-term stewards of the three Washington, D.C. public golf courses (East Potomac, Langston, and Rock Creek). The NLT has partnered with Troon to manage operations and to collaborate on the upcoming golf course renovations that will help rejuvenate the three iconic golf courses. The NLT has committed to a multi-year, multi-million-dollar investment in the restoration and rehabilitation of the three golf properties. Rock Creek Park Golf Course will be renovated first by golf course architect Gil Hanse. Tom Doak will lead the East Potomac work and Beau Welling will oversee the Langston renovation. Investments at all three properties will be guided by the following tenets: maintain affordable golf fees; develop and support youth golf and educational programs; implement environmentally favorable practices; and provide architecturally engaging golf courses. In addition, the NLT will take steps to acknowledge the unique social and sporting histories of these parks, and honor their rich past, especially their role in the racial integration of public golf in Washington and the nation.

East Potomac Golf Links formerly known as Hains Point Golf Course) is located on the Hains Point Island on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. It is home to the Nation’s first Cherry Blossoms. East Potomac offers two 9-hole courses (Par 27 & Par 36), one 18-hole (Par 72), three practice holes, a miniature golf course, along with a heated, covered and lit Driving Range, and The Potomac Grille restaurant. The Mini Golf Course at East Potomac is on the National Register of Historic Places and is listed as the oldest continually operating miniature golf course in the country.
