2017 TROON CHALLENGE NATIONAL FINALS PRESENTED BY CALLAWAY GOLF WRAPS-UP IN SCOTTSDALE
Scottsdale, Ariz. (August 30, 2017) – The 2017 Troon Challenge National Finals presented by Callaway Golf® recently concluded at the Boulders Golf Club and Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Fifty-six two-person teams represented their home clubs in the Finals, played Saturday and Sunday, August 26-27, and battled in both gross and net divisions.
The Troon Challenge is a series of amateur golf tournaments held at world-class Troon® facilities across the United States. Beginning in April and running through August, more than 550 two-person teams competed in 32 regional qualifiers covering 11 states for the right to compete in the Troon Challenge National Finals in Scottsdale. 2017 marked the 15th year of this exciting amateur golf event.
In the Gross Division, Jimmy Kozikowski and James Woods (126), representing Lookout Mountain Golf Club in Phoenix, took home the title shooting an opening round 62 on the Boulders’ South Course and a final round 64 on Troon North Golf Club’s Pinnacle Course. The talented Phoenicians won in a scorecard playoff over Ryan Gibbs and Kale Waaso (126) of The Phoenician Golf Club, and one shot ahead of the third place team of Andrew Augustyniak and Jake Golembiewski (127) representing Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
In the Net Division, Ronnie Schmitz and Dwayne Townsend (120) representing SunRidge Canyon Golf Club in Fountain Hills, Ariz. finished one shot ahead of Scott Mackenzie and Johnathan More (121) of Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. Schmitz and Townsend placed second in the 2016 Troon Challenge National Finals, one-shot out of the lead. This year, after an opening round 61 on the Boulders’ South Course, Townsend and Schmitz closed with a strong final round 59 on Troon North’s Pinnacle Course. Bob Bucey and Bobby Bucey (122) of Yocha Dehe Golf Club in Brooks, Calif. finished in third place with rounds of 60 and 62.
