Kendall Murphy – Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Kendall Murphy’s journey to becoming the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Troon Golf was shaped by pivotal moments and profound intentions. After being involved in the junior golf program at a young age, Kendall came upon the UNLV PGA Golf Management Program at age 17, thanks to his mother’s guiding hand. It was this path that laid the foundation for his career in the golf industry, leading him to earn his PGA of America Class A membership and his eagerness to make a difference.
Growing up in Oakland, Kendall was immersed in diversity, but as he ventured into different parts of the country, he noticed the stark contrast in acceptance and diversity. It was this realization that fueled his determination to pave the way for a more inclusive golf and hospitality industry. Kendall’s goal was clear: to ensure that future generations wouldn’t face the same challenges he did, and to demonstrate the boundless opportunities golf offers in both life and business.
As a professor at UNLV, Kendall aimed to impart just one additional piece of knowledge to each of his students, fostering growth and enlightenment. His daily motivation stemmed from his desire to be a better version of himself and to contribute to making the world a better place.
In his rare moments of free time, Kendall cherishes time with his family and indulges in his passion for golf. As part of his job he travels the nation, speaking at conferences and attending events to drive one of Troon’s values home to everyone around him: “Be Attentively Inclusive.” This value resonates most with Murphy, recognizing the importance of inclusivity for success in all endeavors.
Kendall’s induction into the African American Golf Hall of Fame in 2022 was not only a recognition of his dedication and accomplishments but also a humbling reminder of the impact he’s made and the journey ahead in his mission to foster diversity and inclusion in the world of golf.
