Baylor Golfer Goes Wire-to-Wire to Win in the Desert

Mark Reppe (Dallas, TX) shot a final round 68 to finish at -17 and win the Agave Amateur by three strokes over hard-charging valley resident Charlie Reiter (La Quinta) at Shadow Hills Golf Club.  Reppe, a junior on the Baylor University golf team, got off to a slow start Monday as he was +3 through three holes and a four-shot lead to start the day that dwindled to one shot.  Reppe then eagled the 403-yard par-4 4th hole by holing a 50 degree wedge from 124 yards.  He followed up with birdies at 8 and 11 before another eagle on the 13th hole stretched his lead back out to three shots.  Reiter was on fire all day, narrowly missing a 20-foot putt on the 18th which at the time would have him tied for the lead with Reppe.  Reiter got within one shot several times and finished with an 8-under par 63.  James Song (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) finished alone in 3rd place at -11.

Low scores were again abundant as a total of 38 players finished the Agave Amateur at even par or better.  Reppe’s 17-under total is a tournament record as was his first round 62.

“I really liked the course and I was happy to win after having the lead each day,” said Reppe.  “It feels good to cap off 2020 with a win.”
